FAFSA at McKee - January 25th, 10 AM

There will be a FAFSA/Financial Aid workshop, Saturday, Jan 25th at 10 am at McKee High School. Students will have the flyers by Thursday. Ms. Miller-Peccora will go into the classrooms next week and encourage students to come. You will also hear a mass phone call next week.

I strongly encourage you to join us on Saturday, January 25th, 10 am to find out how you can afford to send your child to college by filling out FAFSA.

The 2014-2015 FAFSA application is now available. It is recommended that your seniors complete and submit the FAFSA form by February 15th. Upon completion of the FAFSA, New York state residents will receive a link to complete the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) application online.

The first step is to obtain a Federal Student Aid Personal Identification Number (PIN) online at www.pin.ed.gov. The PIN will be used to electronically sign and update the 2014-2015 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.gov.

As a reminder, FAFSA on the WEB allows applicants to access their IRS tax information and have it automatically inserted into the FAFSA. The 2014-2015 FAFSA will include a brief series of questions to determine whether an individual is eligible to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool (DRT). Those eligible are strongly encouraged to utilize the tool available starting February 3, 2014.

Once the FAFSA is processed, the student will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) that indicates a calculated Expected Family Contribution (EFC). Encourage your seniors to review the SAR for accuracy including the correct school codes. CUNY will send financial aid award letters in early April 2014.

Your student should review the CUNY Financial Aid website for detailed information relating to college costs and types of aid available and the CUNY NET Price Calculator.

For specific questions regarding financial aid at CUNY, students may contact the Office of Financial Aid at their CUNY college of interest.
